I am off to jolly old England in 2 months, I will be visiting my sister for two weeks. I am looking for some suggestions one what to see or do, other than the obvious tourist traps.

See Scotland. Any part of it. The weather is turrible but the people are nice and the geography is beautiful.

Which part are you going to? The north (proper north, Cumbria and Northumbria) have plenty of beautiful country walks and scenery with lots of history (hell my city, Carlisle, is two thousand years old) and good ales, more central you have The Black Country named after its coal mining history (nothing racist thank you) and has good shopping with quite a bit of automotive history then you have the south east (London, Kent, etc...) again lots of history and sites to see and the south west known for its pies.
